The GREAT NORTHWEST GROMFEST is a summer event that features both skateboarding and snowboarding while at the same time giving back to the industry. How do we do it? Part of the proceeds from our event are donated to non-profits that use alternative sports to benefit kids. This way we’re ensuring that more skate parks are built, more inner-city kids get the opportunity to experience snowboarding and the industry stays strong.
This isn’t the only way in which we’re unique. GROMFEST also ties an art aspect into the competition. Each year an artist or group of artists is chosen to paint both snowboards and skateboards into unique trophies. This way when a competitor wins they not only take home a bag of prizes, but also something no one else has, a one-of-a-kind trophy.
Kids can qualify to compete in GROMFEST in a number of ways. They can watch for contests with some of our partners, self apply by sending in a video of their riding along with why they want to compete, or the most popular, qualify at their local mountain or skate park.
If you qualify, you are then invited to come compete in our summer competition that takes place in July in conjunction with one of our summer camp partners.
The finals consist of snowboard competitions, skate competitions, evening events and activities, music, prizes, giveaways, sun, sun and more sun. In short, it is a great time.
For the 2010-2011 season, GROMFEST is revamping how things are done and is rethinking what makes a good summer event. Unlike years past, there are currently no qualifiers set up at mountains, however, we are still accepting application videos from riders. As small events start to happen again and we launch a revamped summer event, we will make sure to keep our supporters informed.
The action sports industry has grown in the last decade and there’s a lot out there when it comes to competitions. GROMFEST isn’t trying to compete against everyone, we’re just wanting to make sure that you have a good time. After all, the best way to achieve world domination…one grom at a time!
